President in a telephone call with the German Chancellor:

The only way to maintain JCPOA is lift of US' inhumane sanctions

Adding new issues to JCPOA impossible
Criticising Europe's performance in fulfilling their commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) after the US unilaterally withdrew from the deal during its previous administration, the President stressed, "If we really want to maintain the JCPOA and its goals, we must see its effectiveness it practice within the framework of the structure prepared for this purpose, and Europe must prove it in practice".
The only way to maintain JCPOA is lift of US
Speaking with the German Chancellor on Wednesday evening by telephone, Dr Hassan Rouhani called adding new issues to the JCPOA impossible and stressed, "As a document approved by the UN Security Council and is the product of long efforts of Iran and 6 major countries, the JCPOA has a definite framework and is unchangeable".

Stating that the continuation of the JCPOA lacks legitimacy and credit if sanctions and non-compliance with the commitments of the parties continue, Dr Rouhani said that the only way to maintain the deal is the lifting of inhumane, illegal US sanctions and the subsequent return of the country to the deal.

The President said that according to the law passed by the parliament, the government is obliged to further reduce its obligations in response to non-compliance by the other side and not lifting sanctions, stressing, "If the sanctions are lifted, we will completely fulfil our obligations stipulated in the JCPOA".

Referring to the importance of peace and stability in the region and the crises caused by the presence of foreigners and the spread of terrorism, Dr Rouhani called the spread of terrorism the most important challenge of the past, present and future of the region, and emphasised, "Ensuring peace and security and eradicating terrorism will only be possible through constructive cooperation among all countries".

Referring to the initiatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE) to ensure peace and stability in the region, the President stressed the need to resolve the issues of Yemen and ending the humanitarian catastrophe in the country, adding, "The way to resolve regional issues is regional initiatives, solutions and talks, and it is the countries of the region that must decide for their own".

In this telephone conversation, Dr Rouhani also referred to the historical background of Iran-Germany relations and stressed the need to develop and deepen relations between the two countries, especially in the field of economic and trade relations, and the need to take advantage of all capacities in this field.

The President added, "Considering the new international conditions and the opportunity for cooperation among the countries of the region and the world, more cooperation of companies and private sectors of the two countries can lead to the development of cooperation".

Dr Rouhani also referred to the problems caused by coronavirus and the outbreak of the advanced form of the virus in Europe, emphasising the cooperation between the two countries and sharing experiences in the fight against the disease.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel also stressed the importance of maintaining the JCPOA as an international agreement, and called for resolving disagreements through dialogue and strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between all countries to maintain security and stability in the region.
